Happy Wednesday! Can you believe it’s the 10th day of March already? I sure can’t! It seems like just yesterday I was getting ready for the Christmas holidays. But growing up in sunny California, I am definitely a fan of spring. So I say bring on the sunshine—and all the pretty beauties that come along with it. Speaking of pretty, I am enjoying the new galleries over on our Club CK site. It’s been super fun browsing your projects. I’ve picked five of my favorites and would love to have you help me choose the one that will be featured in the September 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes. It’s really quite simple. All you have to do is click on this survey and vote for your favorite. The layout that receives the most votes will be published. Here is a sneak peek at one of the five  fabulous pages you’ll have the opportunity to vote on—and if you can’t decide on just one, no worries. There is no limit to how many times you’re allowed to vote! I will announce the winner at the end of next week, so keep checking back to see if your favorite was chosen.

Celebration Pages in Honor of the Closing Ceremonies

Hey there! I hope you’ve enjoyed the 2010 Winter Olympics and our Olympic-inspired scrapbooking ideas these past two weeks. In honor of the closing ceremonies scheduled this weekend, we’re pleased to bring you celebration-themed pages—layouts that rejoice in and commemorate happy events, accomplishments, and relationships. Take a look at the following categories, and then scrapbook a layout celebrating something wonderful in your life.

1. Firsts and milestones. Many first-time experiences are happy events that mark a significant moment of your life—your first day at a new job, your first car, or your first home, for example. Smaller firsts may also be meaningful to you and worthy of mention on a scrapbook page, such as your child’s first day at school, the first spring flower in your garden, or your pet’s first successful attempt at a new trick.

“Our First House” by Kim Arnold, as seen in the "Super-Fast Pages with 4" x 6" Photos, Volume 2" special issue

2. Birthdays. Commemorate your special day with a scrapbook page. And yes, that’s your birthday too—not just the kids’ birthdays!

“Happy Birthday” by Cindy Tobey, as seen in the June 2009 issue of Creating Keepsakes

3. Weddings, anniversaries, and engagements. Keep these important celebrations fresh in your memory with pages highlighting the most memorable images and happenings from the event.

“The Perfect Day” by Kelly Noel, as seen in the June 2009 issue of Creating Keepsakes

4. Babies. If there’s a baby in your life, then chances are good you also have thousands of photos of the little one on your computer. Choose your favorites to create special pages that document how tiny and sweet your baby is.

“Elsie, 4 Weeks” by Jamie Waters, as seen in the June 2009 issue of Creating Keepsakes

5. Accomplishments. Scrapbook your successes—from goals met to obstacles overcome. Possible topics include graduations (from preschool to college), promotions or raises at work, sports achievements, and more.

“Mike’s Graduation” by Kelly Purkey, as seen in the February 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes

6. Your favorite things. Remember to celebrate the little things as well by recording what makes you happy right now. Your favorite song, your favorite color, the funny nickname your two-year-old has for the dog. Make a list and scrapbook it. Include photos if you have them, or make the layout design all about your words, like Deena Wuest did on her page.

“100 Things I Love” by Deena Wuest, as seen in "Get Creative with Type"

7. Very good days. Record the everyday happenings that make your life happy. Maybe the moments special to you are starting the day with a favorite breakfast, taking an evening stroll with a friend,  or spending time in your garden.

“Thursday Morning Waffles” by Jennifer Davis, as seen in the February 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes

Whatever celebrations you choose to scrapbook, we hope you’ll share your happy pages with us by posting your celebration pages on our idea gallery at Club CK.

CK & Me: January

Take a moment to channel your inner Janet Jackson and sing, “What has CK done for me lately? Oooooh ooh ooh ya!” We regularly receive feedback from you on specific aspects you love about the magazine, and we love reading your comments. You really know how to make us feel good by sharing how our work has had a positive impact on your life.

“CK & Me” feedback definitely falls under this category. But unlike traditional e-mail messages, you also send us visual evidence of your inspiration, which warms our creative hearts. Before we look at some of the latest “CK & Me” examples, we want to thank you for submitting in this area. By sharing your motivation, you’re totally motivating us!

Now, on with the “CK & Me” show!

Do you remember this fantastic page by Jen Jockisch, featured on page 24 of our January 2010 issue?

Kat Poole certainly does. It stood out as a highlight in that issue and motivated her to create this beautiful “Baking Bread” page. The way Kat made Jen’s look her own with a completely unique color scheme and theme made us smile. When sending the layout, Kat said, “I love multiphoto layouts, so when I saw Jen Jockisch’s ‘Celebrate’ layout, I knew I wanted to scraplift it!” Here’s the fabulous result.

Not all “CK & Me” inspiration has to come in the form of layouts. Teresa Sather wrote to share her love of Julia Nomichith’s punch-storage solution, featured in our January 2010 “Creative Spaces” column.

Teresa liked the idea so much that she’s already incorporated it into her own creative space. We love how she’s stepped up the solution by attaching a strip of ribbon to the wall where her punches rest (see below). What a fantastic way to protect the wall in a decorative fashion! Teresa had this to say about her adaptation: “I am going to get the longer rail for above my work surface and use baskets on it. So happy with it. THANKS SO MUCH!”

Our third “CK & Me” example comes from Carrie Leavitt, whose reaction to this multiphoto, two-page layout by Ria Mojica, which was featured in our January 2010 “Reader Gallery” column, was 100% positive!

As you can see, Carrie used the foundation of Ria’s sketch to create this lively “X-Games” layout. We’re delighted by the way she switched up the photo sizes to dimensions that worked for her. And it’s always fun to see how a girly layout can turn all-boy with just a few product changes. Carrie shared this: “I loved the flow of Ria’s layout and the ability to show off a series of photos, which worked perfect for my layout.’”

Thanks for submitting, ladies. For being featured in our January “CK & Me” post, you’ll each receive a free Creating Keepsakes special issue, so keep your eyes on your mailbox.

Your Turn
Your idea could be our next “CK & Me” star. Whether your inspiration came from a featured layout, a technique, a tip, or an organization solution, we want to hear from you. Please send an image of your project, along with specific details for the project that inspired it to letters@creatingkeepsakes.com and put “CK & Me” in the subject line. Thanks. We can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!

Cheers!

Wow! Can you believe it’s December already? I feel like the years just get shorter and shorter. Maybe that comes with getting older, but whatever the case, I hope you’re documenting the days and events important to you. Besides being significant for future generations, your layouts inspire others when they’re posted in our online gallery, helping others create and record memories as well.

In that gallery, we also find layouts to publish in Creating Keepsakes. I’d love to have your help choosing the next Readers’ Pick layout to be featured in the May/June 2010 issue of the magazine. The task is simple and will only take a few moments of your time, but be sure to participate by December 7, 2009. Click on this survey to get started, and then choose your favorite layout. That’s it! Check back on the CK blog later this month to see which page wins.

If you’re not submitting to the online gallery, we’d love to see your work. You never know, your layout may be the next Readers’ Pick page!

—Joannie McBride, assistant editor

P.S. Congratulations to babyroo7 for creating the layout that won last month’s Readers’ Pick choice from the online survey! Her “Photo Shoot” layout will be featured in the March/April 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes.
